Bachman's Inc., the family-run floral and garden center, named Dale Bachman chief executive and chairman following the stabbing death in Beijing of CEO Todd Bachman Aug. 9.

Paul Bachman, 57, will be promoted to president, the Minneapolis-based company said Thursday.

Dale Bachman, 58, Todd's second cousin, joined the company full time in 1972 and has been president since 1992. Paul Bachman has been vice president since 1992.

Bachman's, founded in 1885, operates 29 retail stores in the Twin Cities and St. Cloud.

Barbara Bachman, who was injured in the apparently random attack that killed her husband, was upgraded to good condition earlier this week at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester.
