POTOMAC FALLS, Va. — Brad Dalke retained the lead Wednesday in the Junior PGA Championship and Samantha Wagner topped the girls' leaderboard for the second straight round.
The 15-year-old Dalke, from Hobart, Okla., had an even-par 71 to reach 6-under 136 at Trump National Golf Club - Washington, D.C. The 16-year-old Wagner, from Windermere, Fla., also shot 71 to finish at 4-under 138.
A rising high school sophomore, Dalke's up-and-down round included four birdies and four bogeys.
"It was a real grind out there all day and I actually started off real slow," said Dalke, who opened his round with four pars before bogeying No. 5.
He quickly rebounded with birdies on No. 7, 10 and 11.
"The middle of the round is really when I started to get things going," Dalke said. "I got under par and felt good about my game."
He bogeyed Nos. 12, 14 and 15, birdied the par-4 16th, and saved par from a greenside bunker on 18.
"I made a few bad swings after a good birdie run," Dalke said. "But the birdie at 16 and a save at 18 helped a lot. The 18th hole was really a summary of my round. I hit the ball in the rough off the tee, hit the approach in the bunker, but got up and down after making a 15-footer. It was a good even-par round."
