Gov.-elect Mark Dayton is making the rounds at the U.S. Capitol as he spends the day in Washington for meetings with the Minnesota congressional delegation, a fundraiser and a White House holiday party.

So far, Dayton has met with Democratic Sens. Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken, and Rep. Michele Bachmann, and he has meetings lined up with Republican Reps. Erik Paulsen and John Kline later in the day.

Bachmann greeted Dayton with a hug when the two met, and they talked for about 15 minutes. Following the meeting, Dayton ran into Rep. Keith Ellison after Bachmann left to the House floor.

"It's important to extend the hand of fellowship and goodwill, which I know they are going to reciprocate," Dayton said when asked about his meetings with the three Minnesota Republicans.

Dayton also spent some of the morning catching up with former Senate colleagues he served with when he was in the Senate from 2000-2006.
