BERLIN — One of the five defendants in Germany's highest-profile neo-Nazi murder trial in decades has apologized to the victims' families.
Holger Gerlach is accused of aiding the National Socialist Underground, whose members are alleged to have killed eight Turks, a Greek and a policewoman between 2000 and 2007.
The dpa news agency reported that Gerlach told a Munich regional court Thursday he supplied the group with identification papers, money and a gun, but didn't know of their plan to kill immigrants.
The main defendant has so far refused to speak.
Beate Zschaepe is accused of murder for alleged complicity in the killings.
She is also accused of involvement in two bombings and 15 bank robberies allegedly carried out by her accomplices Uwe Mundlos and Uwe Boenhardt, who died in November 2011.
