"Since returning to the Star Tribune from the Los Angeles Times in 2013, Simmons' visuals teams have won more awards than at any point in the company's history, including an unprecedented four consecutive years in the Top 10 at the Society for News Design's international Creative Competition. In Los Angeles and Minneapolis, he has helped lead award-winning print and digital redesigns, and he has helped create and launch products on platforms of all kinds. Simmons is also the director of the basketball board for East Ridge Athletic Association, as well as a coach.
