The start: The first eight cabins and a lodge popped up along Steamboat Bay on Gull Lake in 1940.

The present: The resort covers 3,650 feet of shoreline and more than 30 acres. Most of the more than 200 rooms are concentrated in the year-round lakeside lodge. Cabins are seasonal.

Lodging: Bunk-bed family suites, shoreline and fireplace suites, Bayview Apartments, Lakeview cabins on the hillside and Beach Cottages on the shore.

Lake activities: Several docks for tying up your own boat or renting one of theirs, pontoon cruises, hydrobikes, canoes and kayaks, paddleboards, boats and a full-service marina. Lessons in wakeboarding, kneeboarding and tubing, plus fishing clinics.

Recreation: Teen and children's programs, family games and programs from scavenger hunts to bingo, indoor and outdoor pools, trolley rides, volleyball, tennis, basketball and horseshoes.

Golf: Reversible par 3 course, plus championship Dutch Legacy and Bobby's Legacy courses.

Dining: Lodge dining room, Bear Trap Bar, Cabana Café and the new Irma's Kitchen, which opens June 16 and replaces the Hungry Gull, blending resort favorites with farm-to-table ingredients (seasonal).
