A Lakefield, Minn., man died Friday when a ditch that he and his uncle were working in collapsed in southwestern Minnesota.

Levi Buresch, 20, was pronounced dead at the scene after crews responded to the cave-in on the eastern outskirts of Lakefield about 3:40 p.m. Friday, according to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.

According to Buresch's father, Keith Buresch, the two were at a family farm fixing a tile main about 14 feet deep in the ground when a side of the trench caved in.

Emergency crews retrieved his son's body, he said.

Buresch said his son was hardworking and had plans to help out with the family farming business after graduating from South Dakota State University. "He had a lot of potential," Buresch said.

Levi's uncle, Byron Buresch, 52, was rescued and taken to a hospital.
