In a world of super-size this and super-size that, International Dairy Queen is about to take a contrarian approach.
DQ's Blizzard in a flurry size
Dairy Queen to introduce a mini blizzard.
This summer, the Edina-based sultan of soft serve will begin offering a "mini" Blizzard. It weighs in at just under 6 ounces, about half the size of a small Blizzard.
Meant to appeal to customers looking for smaller portion sizes or lower prices -- or both -- the mini Blizzard will cost $1.99 to $2.49. That compares to, on average, $3.19 for a small Blizzard, $3.59 for the 16-ounce version and $4.09 for a 21-ounce tub.
The mini was tested primarily in three markets, including the Twin Cities, and Dairy Queen says it was a hit.
The Blizzard, which debuted 25 years ago, is Dairy Queen's flagship product. And the company claims the Blizzard outsells any single ice cream treat served up by any of its competitors.
