Eastview Legion team ends Eden Prairie's reign

Eastview defeated Eden Prairie 16-6 in the championship game of the American Legion Division I state baseball tournament Sunday.

Eastview, which had 20 hits, will advance to play in the Central Plains Regional, which begins Thursday in Minot, N.D.

Eden Prairie, which had won the previous four state titles, will advance to play in the Great Lakes Regional, which begins Thursday in Chillicothe, Ohio.

In the American Legion Division II state tournament, Jordan defended its title, beating La Crescent 8-1.

Saints' Blitstein pitches shutout Jeff Blitstein pitched a three-hit shutout to lead the St. Paul Saints to a 4-0 victory over the Lincoln Saltdogs in an American Association game in Lincoln, Neb. Blitstein walked two and struck out four, improving to 2-1.

Kevin Sullivan had three hits and drove in a run for the Saints. Sullivan, Brent Krause and Adam Hale all hit solo home runs for the Saints.

Thunder beats Seattle Ricardo Sanchez scored two goals and Melvin Tarley had one as the Thunder defeated Seattle 3-1 at the National Sports Center, ending the Sounders' three-match winning streak. The Thunder is 3-1-1 in its past five matches.
