Edina forward Taylor Williamson received the Ms. Hockey Award on Sunday, an honor bestowed by Let's Play Hockey newspaper on the top senior girls' hockey player in the state.

Williamson, who was voted the Star Tribune girls' hockey Metro Player of the Year, tallied 36 goals and 20 assists during the regular season and led the Hornets into the state tournament. She received the award at a banquet held at the Rivercentre in St. Paul.

Edina coach Laura Slominski has lauded Williamson as "the kind of player I'll only get to coach once in a career.''

Williamson has committed to play next year at Minnesota, where her grandfather, Murray, was an All-America winger for the Gophers. Her father, Dean, played three seasons in maroon and gold.
