Details: Eden Prairie-based hotel developer THG Properties is expanding in Plymouth with the construction of a new Home2 Suites hotel next to its existing Comfort Inn along Interstate 494.

Under a plan approved by the city in April, THG will subdivide its 9-acre parcel northwest of the I-494/Hwy. 55 interchange. The Comfort Inn and an adjacent Lucky 13's Pub were located on one lot, while a new parcel just south of the existing buildings was created bordering Harbor Lane North.

The new, 2.3-acre lot will become a Home2 Suites by Hilton, a brand that has become a popular choice for developers who want an affordable extended-stay option next to traditional hotels. Baymont Hotels last month revealed plans for a Home2 Suites-Tru by Hilton combination in Bloomington, while TPI Hospitality in 2016 opened a side-by-side Home2 Suites and Hampton Inn in Roseville.

The new Plymouth hotel will have 102 rooms. At five stories, it received a variance from the city's four-story height restriction in the area. THG argued that the extra height was needed because nearby power lines running along I-494 necessitated a tighter footprint.

To improve access, a new entrance from Empire Lane N. is to be constructed, serving all three businesses. Construction is estimated to be completed by spring 2018, according to a submitted narrative.
