It might be the only annual red carpet event in the Twin Cities -- or at least the only one with this many Hollywood-import celebrities. Last weekend, the Starkey Hearing Foundation rolled out the crimson welcome mat at St. Paul's RiverCentre for its "So the World May Hear" gala. Billie Jean King was honored with a humanitarian award. Performers included Pat Benatar, who bolted across the red carpet, and Garth Brooks, who declined to make a star's entrance.

Plenty of Minnesotans looked like celebrities, including Tani and Bill Austin, who founded Starkey in 1973. It was undoubtedly a party, but attendees remembered why they were there -- to support distributing hearing aids worldwide. Starkey gives away more than 20,000 of the devices every year. "We're doing our best to let everyone become a part of life through hearing," Bill Austin said.
Lucy Walsh, Joe Walsh’s daughter, of MTV’s “Rock the Cradle” Wearing: Jean Paul Gaultier dress, Aldo shoes and $20 earrings. “I never like to spend money on things. It’s all about taking one designer piece and then doing it up with Forever 21 jewelry. That’s how I roll. You can’t tell the difference. That’s the best part.” Q Do you own any Garth Brooks’ CDs? A I do. My mother is in love with Garth Brooks. I think everyone’s mother is. I’m pumped. “The Dance” is probably my favorite song ever. (Special to the Star Tribune/The Minnesota Star Tribune)
Joyce and Sam Moore (of Sam & Dave) Q: Sam, you recorded “I’m a Dole Man” for Bob Dole’s presidential campaign. Who are you singing for this year? A Nobody. Without our knowing about it, [Barack Obama was] doing “Hold On, I’m Coming.” You don’t do that if you don’t ask. Have respect now. They had to stop." Carla and Lou Ferrigno Q You’re the original “Incredible Hulk” and you voice the current movie’s character. What’s something we don’t know about the Hulk? A He’s a good guy and he never loses his temper. Just kidding. (Special to the Star Tribune/The Minnesota Star Tribune)
Marion Ross (“Happy Days”) Q Marion, you’re from Minnesota. What do you do when you visit? A I’m from Albert Lea. I was there last weekend because they named the theater after me —The Marion Ross Performing Arts Center. I went to Southwest [High School in Minneapolis] for a year. When I’m here, I have to go see Lake Harriet. We had a wonderful tour of the new Guthrie today. (Special to the Star Tribune/The Minnesota Star Tribune)
Cheryl Tiegs (in Monique Lhuillier) and Dan Buettner Q According to US Weekly, Mary Kate Olsen says “prune” for photos. Cheryl, do you have any posing tips? A Don’t say “prune.” Don’t say “cheese!” The key is to be yourself. Don’t try to be sexy. You just have to be sexy all of the time, girls. That’s the goal.
