Fly Fishing in SE, Mn

Just a 2 1/2 hrs drive to Preston, MN

March 10, 2010 at 10:14PM

It was 2 1/2 hrs dirve to the quiet town of Preston, MN. There were lots of rivers, streams, and creeks that weaved through this community. We expected an overcast weekend.......instead a warm sunny weekend...........that proved to be quite challenging when trying to cast without spooking the fish. If anything we got our exercise while trekking in deep snow to get to the water. We also had lots of practice casting. Only luck came when Becky got a rainbow (quite nice) just a few minutes into the water.................it was mid-morning on Sunday..........it was overcast and perfect conditions for nymphing. We tried various areas.......even down to Forrestville State Park.............the others who stayed later.........had luck with pink squirrels and pheasant tails. It was fun...............and plan to return and try again..............We had our snowshoes...........but............left them in the car.............it was work!! Overall.............fun!!
