John Bul Dau, a former Lost Boy of Sudan, will share his life experiences in a presentation on Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. at Stillwater Junior High School.

Bul Dau is featured in the National Geographic film "God Grew Tired of Us" and wrote the books "God Grew Tired of Us" and "Lost Boy, Lost Girl: Escaping Civil War in Sudan." He was named a 2007 National Geographic Emerging Explorer and was a 2008 Volvo for Life Award recipient.

Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults. Tickets are available in Stillwater Junior High School's main office.

A reception and book signing will follow the event.

Organization seeks distinguished alumniThe Partnership Plan for Stillwater Schools is accepting nominations for Stillwater Area High School's Distinguished Alumni Award. Nominees must have been out of high school for at least 20 years, reached a distinguished level of achievement in their profession, made significant contributions to community, society and/or humanity, and demonstrated that education is a lifelong experience.

SOUTH WASHINGTON

Park High coach gets statewide honorGreg Juba, a Park High School math teacher, received the George Haun Award from the Minnesota State High School Coaches Association. Juba is the head girls soccer coach, assistant boys basketball coach and head girls golf coach at Park High School in Cottage Grove.

The award is given in honor of George Haun, who was the founder and first president of the association, and is given to coaches who make significant contributions to the coaches association and high school sports.

Juba's girls soccer teams have gone to the state tournament six times and won the state championship in 1990.

Juba has won numerous awards throughout his career, including section, state and region Coach of the Year in soccer and state assistant Coach of the Year in basketball.

WOODBURY

Nominees sought for education awardThe Woodbury Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations for the community's Educator or Educational Team of the year. The nominee or education team must be educators in one of the Woodbury or Newport public or private schools (pre-kindergarten through grade 12). The nominee must have taught at least three years and displayed exceptional skill and dedication to education. Recipients from the past five years will not be eligible.

Winners will be acknowledged at the chamber's annual gala on Jan. 20.
