A day after he disclosed his prostate cancer diagnosis and explained why he fainted during a high-profile speech, Gov. Mark Dayton launched into a full day of events that started with an education conference in St. Paul Tuesday.
Former President Clinton, Minnesota Republicans offer Dayton well wishes, flowers
Gov. Mark Dayton keeps up busy schedule a day after disclosing prostate cancer diagnosis and explaining why he fainted during his State of the State speech.
At the outset of his brief remarks, Dayton joked about the number of reporters who turned out for his remarks, wondering if they were there for his speech -- or see if he would faint again. The governor spoke for a few minutes at the University of Minnesota's St. Paul campus.
He seemed relatively well and later assured reporters that while he's got cancer, he's still fit enough to do the job. Just don't expect him to run a marathon any time soon, Dayton said. He said that in the hours since he revealed his diagnosis, he had received well wishes from all over the country.
Former President Bill Clinton called Dayton, he said. So did staff for former Democratic presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton, and former First Lady Michelle Obama who passed along well wishes.
The state Senate Republican caucus sent flowers, as did state Rep. Mary Franson, R-Alexandria.
"The outpouring of concern and support has been really wonderful," Dayton said.
