Joe McConnell, whose longtime broadcasting career included two stints with the Vikings and one with the Twins, died Sunday in Indianapolis at age 79, the Chicago White Sox announced.
McConnell called White Sox games from 1980 to '84. His career also included 23 years doing play-by-play in the NFL, including with the Vikings from 1971 to '76 and again from 1985 to '87.
He spent 1978 and '79 with the Twins. His career included five NFL teams, two NBA teams, two MLB teams and various college football and basketball teams, including Purdue football from 1995 to 2009.
He also served as the lead voice for the NBA Radio Network from 1991 to '95. He broadcast three Super Bowls, the NBA and ABA championships, the NBA All-Star Game and the American League Championship Series.
