Two people were killed early Sunday morning when their car veered into a ditch, then struck a tree in St. Francis.

The St. Francis Police Department and the Anoka County Sheriff's Office arrived at the intersection of 229th Avenue NW and Arrowhead Street about 1:10 a.m. Sunday on a report of a car crash.

Authorities believe that the car was traveling westbound on 229th Avenue when it crashed and caught fire.

The State Patrol, the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office and local law enforcement agencies are investigating. The victims have not been identified.

Crashes on Saturday claimed two other lives on Minnesota roads.

Chad E. Rannow, 47, of Silver Lake, Minn., was killed when the 2004 Jeep Liberty he was driving west on Hwy. 55 in Wright County left the roadway and went into a ditch, vaulted off a driveway approach and came to rest at J & J Marine, according to the State Patrol.

Steven D. Cullinan, 49, of Buffalo, was driving a 2013 Infiniti M37X east on Hwy. 55 in western Hennepin County when a westbound semi crossed over the median, striking Cullinan's car head-on. He died at the scene.
