It's the ears that make him seem . . . off. This ad is from 1925; here's the full version. I had no idea daylight was so filthy in the Jazz Age:

The Minneapolis General Electric building still stands, although the store's long gone. Filled with miraculous devices and appliances - waffle irons! Toasters! Daylight washers! - it must have been the Apple Store of its time.
