Russell coming off strong start
Wolves update: Minnesota has lost two straight since a season-best four-game winning streak. … G Anthony Edwards is coming off a 42-point performance in which he hit 17 of 22 shots and eight of nine three-pointers. Back in the starting lineup for the first time since returning from injury, G D'Angelo Russell had 22 points and a season-high 14 assists. It was his third 20-10 game of the season and the 19th of his career. His 14 assists were the most since he played for Brooklyn in 2019. C Karl-Anthony Towns has hit a three-pointer in 79 straight games. Jaden McDaniels (personal reasons) is out.
Heat update: With former Wolves G Jimmy Butler out because of flu-like symptoms, the Heat had its three-game winning streak end Tuesday at home vs. Dallas. The Heat, 7-3 in its past 10 games, was in seventh place in the Eastern Conference heading into Thursday night's game. The Heat has lost five straight against the Wolves. Butler is averaging 21.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 7.2 assists. C Bam Adebayo is averaging 18.9 points and 9.1 rebounds. Butler (flu-like symptoms) and G Tyler Herro (right foot) are questionable and G Victor Oladipo (knee) is out.
