Texas twang-folk vet Nanci Griffith has cancelled her pair of gigs Monday and Tuesday at the Dakota due to illness, but the club's staff came up with a pretty terrific remedy on the fly: Gary Louris of the Jayhawks will play both those nights instead, the hometown alt-country hero's first time headlining the downtown jazz haven. Tickets to both of the 7 p.m. shows are $30 and go on sale Friday via the club's website. Griffith's gigs were already postponed once from March and may be rescheduled again, but nothing is set yet. Stay tuned.

By coincidence, these shows will mark Louris's return to the stage after cancelling his tour last fall due to an unspecified illness, which he opened up about on Christmas Day (it was chemical dependency). He did make it down to the South by Southwest Music Conference in March (and sounded great). He has been working on his second solo album and might preview a few of those songs alongside Jayhawks and Golden Smog staples and who-knows-what-else. Gary himself probably doesn't even know the game plan yet – he just landed the gigs last night, after all.
