Gear Junkie: Adventure medical kits travel wipes

Fresh Bath Travel Wipes are marketed as a portable sponge-bath solution for the adventure set. Backpackers, road trippers and travelers stuck at airports can use these moistened towelettes to quickly scrub their ears, neck, armpits, on down to toes -- in that order, preferably.

The $4.50 packs include eight 8- by 5-inch antibacterial wipes moistened with aloe vera, potassium sorbate, citric acid and skin-conditioning nutrients.

Alcohol is not on the ingredient list, and the company (www.adventuremedicalkits.com) touts a gentle and nonirritating scrub that "leaves skin feeling clean, refreshed and moisturized."

Fresh Bath Travel Wipes are neutrally scented, meaning you won't smell like lilacs. The company says they are biodegradable and flushable.

I put the product to the test during a weekend of summertime camping. They wiped off dirt, sweat and odor and stood in as a secondary solution to a shower -- not as good as the real thing, but better than just jumping in a lake for a refresh.
