Republicans in Washington are going after their best 2010 target in Minnesota, second-term Democrat Tim Walz, whose outstate congressional district holds at least the glimmer of hope of a GOP pickup in November.
The "Code Red" robo call campaign, launched by the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), targets Walz's support for the Democrats' health care reform legislation, which is likely coming back up for a vote in the coming weeks.
The NRCC describes the Code Red project as a "last line of defense to stop a government takeover of healthcare." The Minnesota DFL has issued a point-by-point rebuttal. But don't let the press releases and robo calls fool you. It's not as impersonal as it sounds. Turns out one of the GOP pols participating in the Code Red project is Minnesota Republican John Kline, just one congressional district over from Walz. In an email to supporters promoting Cod Red, Kline says the program will "hold Democrats accountable for ignoring the American people." Maybe they'll do a joint town hall meeting some day.
The new plant, expected to come online in 2028, will scrub PFAS chemicals from the city’s water supply. Much of the cost will be covered by 3M settlement money.
