University of Minnesota basketball player Reggie Lynch was arrested Sunday on suspicion of criminal sexual conduct and was being held in the Hennepin County jail.
Lynch has not been formally charged but was being held without bail on probable cause.
He was arrested by university police around 1:30 p.m. The details of what happened leading up to his arrest have not been released.
The Star Tribune generally does not name those who have been arrested but not charged, but the university released a statement to journalists Sunday night naming Lynch and writing that he has been "suspended from all team activities indefinitely, pending the outcome of the investigation."
Lynch, who played for Edina High School, transferred into the program from Illinois State a year ago and was ineligible for game action last season because of NCAA transfer rules.
The arrest is the latest troubling news for Richard Pitino's Gophers basketball program.
Last August, former player Daquein McNeil pleaded guilty to third-degree assault charges.
McNeil was charged in November 2014 of felony assault and felony domestic assault for allegedly beating and strangling his girlfriend. The domestic-assault-by-strangulation charge was dismissed.
