Gophers update: The Gophers (7-7, 0-2 Big Ten) are 4-6 in 10 games against Rutgers; the home team has won all of the games. G Sara Scalia is averaging 15.4 points and is fourth in the Big Ten in three-point shooting percentage (44.4). PG Jasmine Powell is third in the conference in assists per game (5.8). G Gadiva Hubbard needs to make two three-pointers to pass Shannon Schonrock (2002-06) for the third-most threes in program history. Minnesota's opponents so far this season have a combined winning percentage of 70.4, highest among Big Ten teams through Jan. 4.

Rutgers update: The Scarlet Knights are 7-8, and have opened the Big Ten season 0-3. But two of those losses — to Penn State and Purdue — were by a combined six points. Rutgers was within four points of powerful Maryland with seven minutes left in the fourth quarter before losing 73-59. Rutgers does not have a player scoring in double figures. F Osh Brown is averaging 8.2 points and 8.9 rebounds per game. G Shug Dickson is averaging 8.1 points per game. Rutgers is third in the Big Ten in steals per game (10.1) and blocks (4.5).
