Gophers junior Shane Wiskus finished second in the all-around Thursday at the Winter Cup Challenge in Las Vegas, maintaining his place on the U.S. men's gymnastics national team.

Wiskus compiled a score of 84.550, behind only six-time U.S. all-around champion Sam Mikulak. Mikulak had a score of 86.800, with first-place finishes in three of six events. Wiskus was first in vault (14.450), third in rings (14.350), fourth in parallel bars (14.500), fourth in floor exercise (14.200), tied for fourth in high bar (13.650) and 12th in pommel horse (13.400).
The top six men in Thursday's competition earned places on the national team with six more to be named after the Winter Cup ends Saturday.
