Gophers update: The 6-6 Gophers have lost three straight, the last two in the Big Ten Conference, to three teams — North Carolina, Nebraska and 13th-ranked Michigan — that are a combined 29-1. And the Gophers held a second-half lead in all three games. Those three losses have come by an average of seven points. The key for the Gophers is more consistent offense and better starts; the Gophers did not lead after the first quarter in any of the three games. After missing a game with an injured right ankle, PG Jasmine Powell returned to lead the Gophers in scoring (19 on 7-for-14 shooting) and rebounds (eight). A game after setting her career high with 25 points, F Kadi Sissoko was limited to three points on 1-for-4 shooting in Michigan. G Sara Scalia has shot 8-for-17 on threes the last three games, but has made just five of 21 two-point attempts in that time. F/C Alanna Micheaux got her first career start in Michigan and finished with eight points on 4-for-6 shooting.
Ohio update: The Bobcats have won four straight since opening the season with losses against Notre Dame (currently ranked 21st in the AP poll) and Liberty, two teams with a combined 18-3 record. The Bobcats are the only team in Division I with two players currently averaging better than 20 points a game. They are the guard tandem of Cece Hooks (21.2 points, 7.2 rebounds, 3.0 assists) and Erica Johnson (20.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, 5.3 assists). Hooks had 24 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists in Ohio's most recent victory, over Richmond. A preseason pick to win the Mid-American Conference, Ohio has scored 90 or more points in three straight games.
Sam Rinzel had two of the Gophers’ three power play goals against the Irish.
