Gophers update: The Gophers (9-11, 2-6 Big Ten) are coming off a 74-71 loss at Michigan State on Sunday. The loss was the third consecutive for the Gophers. Junior guard Sara Scalia, who scored 31 points on Sunday, is averaging 20.4 points per game over the past 10 games. ... Scalia was 7-for-13 on three-pointers on Sunday as the Gophers were 12-for-31. The Gophers are shooting 37.3% on three-pointers (second-best in the Big Ten). ... Junior guard Jasmine Powell, who had nine assists on Sunday, is averaging 5.7 assists per game. ... The Gophers defeated Purdue 77-72 last season in Minneapolis and have won the last three meetings.
Boilermakers update: The Boilermakers are in their first season under coach Katie Gearlds, who was an All-America player during her playing career at Purdue. The Boilermakers (12-7, 3-5 Big Ten) are coming off a 79-66 loss at No. 7 Michigan on Monday. It was the Boilermakers' third loss in the past four games. Sophomore guard Madison Layden leads Purdue in scoring (13.1 points per game). Junior guard Abby Ellis is averaging 11.4 points per game and shooting 42% from three-point range.
Minnesota’s bench scored 50 points, including a team-leading 18 points from graduate transfer Annika Stewart, showcasing the depth that coach Dawn Plitzuweit promised.
