Gophers wrestlers scuffle to fourth

The Gophers took fourth place in the Southern Scuffle in Chattanooga, Tenn. Penn State won the 32-team wrestling tournament with 175.5 points, followed by Oklahoma State 158, Missouri 147.5 and the Gophers 139.5.

Three Gophers in the finals all lost. Tony Nelson, the defending NCAA heavyweight champion, lost to Dom Bradley of Missouri 2-1 in two overtimes. Chris Dardanes (133 pounds) and Logan Storley (174) both lost by one point to Oklahoma State opponents.

Hamline player arrested Eugene Lawrence, a Hamline basketball player, was arrested after he allegedly sent a Portland woman visiting Spokane, Wash., to the hospital on New Year's Eve with a broken eye socket and broken jaw. Kayla Bray, 20, was visiting with another Piper when she got into an argument with Lawrence after Hamline's game with Whitworth University. Lawrence made his first court appearance Wednesday and is charged with felony second degree assault.
