One man was fatally shot and another injured when gunfire broke out at a Bloomington house party when uninvited guests were asked to leave early Sunday.

The gunfire occurred shortly after 2 a.m. in the 8500 block of Penn Avenue S., police said.

"The investigation to this point has determined that the residents were holding a small social gathering when uninvited guests began arriving," the Police Department said in a statement. "At some point, the residents asked the guests to leave and in the process shots were fired."

Officers saw several people leaving the home and found two people who had been shot.

Emergency personnel took the two men to Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, where one — a 21-year-old man from Minneapolis — died. Police are still confirming his identity.

The other man, who is also 21 and from Eagan, has noncritical injuries, police said. They aren't releasing his name yet.

Casings from a 9-millimeter firearm were located in the house and on the lawn, according to emergency dispatch audio.

No arrests have been announced. Anyone with information is being urged to contact police at 952-563-4900.
