Guthrie announces cast for 'Macbeth'

Joe Dowling will direct the bloody Shakespeare play, with Erik Heger and Michelle O'Neill in lead roles. It opens in previews Jan. 30.

The Guthrie Theater has announced its cast for "Macbeth," the theater's 50th Shakespeare play, which opens in previews January 30.

Erik Heger, who appeared at the Guthrie in "The Great Gatsby" in 2006, will play the title role. Guthrie regular Michelle O'Neill, seen as Portia in the Guthrie's "Merchant of Venice" in 2007, will play Lady Macbeth.

Other principals include: Sun Mee Chomet (Lady Macduff), Raye Birk (Duncan), Barbara Bryne, Isabell Monk O'Connor and Suzanne Warmanen (witches), Bill McCallum (Banquo), Robert Berdahl (Macduff), Richard Iglewski (Angus), Kris Nelson (Porter), Bob Davis (Rosse) and John Skelley (Malcom).

Joe Dowling will direct "Macbetth." Another Shakespeare play, "Romeo and Juliet," opens in previews at the Guthrie January 9.
