Hennepin County seeks input on pedestrian plan

June 1, 2013 at 7:39PM

Hennepin County wants to hear from the public about a countywide proposal to increase pedestrian safety, walkability and resident health.

The state's most populous county has extensive roads, transit and bike paths, but it will be the first in the state to adopt a countywide pedestrian plan for the roads.

The plan is at www.hennepin.us/pedestrianplan. Feedback can be submitted through the site.

Plans include expanding the sidewalk and trail network, improving pedestrian connections to transit and making it easier for pedestrians to cross county roads. Safer pedestrian access to schools is another goal.

The draft plan was created with help from county staff and community members. The public can comment through July 15.

Feedback will be reviewed and the plan adjusted before it is submitted to the Hennepin County Board later this summer.

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
