"Star Trek Beyond" goes way too "fast and furious" with hot-rod director Justin Lin at the Enterprise helm. He revs up a disjointed tale of a mysterious alien menace bent on annihilating the Federation. Karl Urban, as McCoy, is the lone bright spot in a tired cast — even if the good doctor spends too much time, unbelievably, piloting a fighter ship. Fans deserve better. Among the Blu-ray extras, a gag reel offers a glimpse of the fun and energy missing from the main feature.
