Now here's something really big

The failure of "The Iron Giant" to achieve Disney-like box-office success remains one of the great cinematic crimes of the 20th century. Perhaps the recent release of a "Signature Edition" will bring the animated classic the new fans it so richly deserves. Directed by Brad Bird, who would go on to helm "The Incredibles," the 1999 film follows the ruckus that ensues when a giant robot crash-lands near a coastal Maine town during the Cold War. Is he a doomsday device from space, a Commie weapon or just a really cool toy for a lonely boy? A restored dream sequence helps to shed light on the answer. Available now in digital HD via the usual streaming services, the remastered film will be out on Blu-ray in 2016.
