We probably have the upcoming film "Kong: Skull Island" to thank for Warner's new Blu-ray of 1970's "When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth."

The groovy Hammer Studios production is set at "a time when there was, as yet, no moon," women wore nicely tailored bikinis and dinosaurs lurked around every cave, man. The film largely concerns the chaos that ensues after a cavewoman, who's being sacrificed because she has a blonde wig, escapes to a rival tribe whose members soon decide that they don't like her much either.

The only extra is a trailer. But the disc does present the film's international version, which contains some nudity cut from the U.S. release — unfortunately, not enough to distract from the prehysterical plot. But props go to the filmmakers for a serious-minded approach that includes an invented language for the tribespeople and outstanding stop-motion dinosaurs that earned an Oscar nomination for special effects.

"When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth" isn't a forgotten gem, but completists who are already familiar with its hokiness will enjoy having it in high-def.
