The stock market showed little life on Wednesday as it closed yet another trading day barely changed from the day before. Major indexes rallied a bit after the Federal Reserve released minutes from its last meeting, but mostly gave up the gains toward the close. It was the fourth day in a row that the Standard and Poor's 500 index moved less than one-half of one percentage point.

For the day:
The Dow Jones industrial average slipped 26.99 points, or 0.2 percent, 18,285.40.
The S&P 500 closed down 1.98 points, or less than 0.1 percent, to 2,125.85.
The Nasdaq composite rose 1.71 points, or less than 0.1 percent, to 5,071.74.
For the week:
The Dow is up 12.84 points, or 0.1 percent.
The S&P 500 is up 3.12 points, or 0.2 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 23.45, or 0.5 percent.
For the year:
The Dow is up 462.33 points, or 2.6 percent.
The S&P 500 index is up 66.95 points, or 3.3 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 335.69 points, or 7.1 percent.
