Firefighters spent several hours Wednesday putting out a grass fire in a light industrial area of Brooklyn Park.

The fire burned an area just northeast of Boone and 73rd Avenues N., said Fire Chief Ken Prillaman. Nobody was injured.

It took firefighters from several agencies at least four hours to get the blaze under control, he said. Helicopters dropped water on the flames, which were several hundred feet to the east of a large commercial building where several businesses operate. A Minnesota Department of Transportation traffic camera near Interstate 94 and Hwy. 81 showed billows of black smoke rising from the scene.

The Department of Natural Resources remained on the scene Wednesday afternoon to handle hot spots, said Prillaman. Hwy. 81 was closed for several hours.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
