Black Milk is sort of like the Kanye West of independent hip-hop. He raps but also produces his own albums (but unlike 'Ye, he's not an egomaniacal pseudo fashion designer). The Detroit one-man-band plays the 7th Street Entry on Wednesday. After making a name for himself as a J Dilla disciple in the mid-2000s (producing for Slum Village), Black Milk has broadened his sound in recent years. Last summer he collaborated with Jack White on a 7" single (listen here). In November he produced an EP ("Black & Brown) with fellow Motor City alt-rap star Danny Brown (listen here).

For his Claps and Slaps tour, he's no longer a one-man-crew – he'll be backed by the live band, Nat Turner. Opening is Minneapolis' own The Tribe & Big Cats! Don't miss this show.

Details: 8 p.m. Wed. 7th Street Entry. $12/$15. 18 and older. www.first-avenue.com

FILE -- A rent deposit slot at an apartment complex in Tucker, Ga., on July 21, 2020. As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
