Butterfly gardening

It's not too early to start planning what will bloom in your yard next spring and summer to attract wildlife. Master naturalist and gardener Joy Kuyava will offer a presentation on the life cycle of butterflies and which garden plants attract and sustain them. 6:30 p.m. Dec. 14. Free. Minnetonka Community Center, 14600 Minnetonka Blvd., Minnetonka, westmetromaster naturalists.weebly.com.

Holiday flower show

The weather outside may be a little frightful, but inside the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory, the view is delightful. A tradition since 1925, the holiday flower show displays hundreds of poinsettias. In addition, the Sunken Garden showcases a floral spectrum of whites and soft pinks. On Dec. 10 and 17, families can bring their own cameras to take a family photo for a $5 per-person fee. While there, shop for botanical soaps, lotions and spa items at Garden Safari Gifts. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. daily through Jan. 7. Free, 1225 Estabrook Dr., St. Paul. comozooconservatory.org.
