Post time: 5 p.m. Lock of the day: Wynn Trip (5th race). Value play of the day: Bodenheimer (6th race). Big score: 50-cent Pick 5 ticket—Race 1 (1,3/2,3,4,6,7,9/1,4,7,8/5,7/6), $48.

1. 6 furlongs. Open. 3-year-olds and up. Allowance. Purse: $30,000.

#: Horse, Jockey, Trainer Wt./Odds

1: Sensical (Da Silva, Kenney) 124/8-5

2: Justin Azteca (Carmona, Lund) 119/4-1

3: Army Kid (Gallardo, Rosin) 119/2-1

4: Bluejay Way (Valenzuela, VanWinkle) 119/10-1

5: Eightysixchevy (Quinonez, Padilla) 119/5-1

6: Color Me Legendary (Pena, Gomez) 124/12-1

ARMY KID (3) was impressive when graduating two back in a sprint and then ran evenly routing. Cuts back in distance after a bullet workout for a high-percentage barn. SENSICAL (1) crushed his foes last out while breaking his maiden easily. His speed figure in that victory dominates this field, but could he regress. EIGHTYSIXCHEVY (5) has good early speed and has been first/second in all four career starts.

2. 7½ furlongs on turf. Open. 3-year-olds and up. Claiming: $10,000. Purse: $15,500.

#: Horse, Jockey, Trainer Wt./Odds

1: Grunder (Roman, Rengstorf) 124/12-1

2: Franz (Valenzuela, Hanson) 124/4-1

3: Swampdrainer (Lindsay, Silva) 124/6-1

4: Storm’s Reflection (Quinonez, Perez) 124/7-2

5: Handsome Harry (Pena, Silva Jr.) 119/3-1

6: Big Pete (Harr, Rengstorf) 124/10-1

7: O Dogg (Arroyo, Riecken) 124/6-1

8: Infinite Moro (Da Silva, Rengstorf) 124/8-1

9: Coffee Caliente (Carmona, Robertson) 119/5-2

STORM’S REFLECTION (4) has been dying to get on the turf in Chicago while being rained off the surface in three of four. Ships northwest to try the local lawn and drop in claiming price. COFFEE CALIENTE (9) was fairly successful on the lawn here last summer with a win and two placings but is coming off an 11-month layoff. SWAMPDRAINER (3) returns from a refresher and has a versatile running style.

3. 6 furlongs. State bred. Open. 3-, 4- and 5-year-olds. Maiden claiming: $7,500. Purse: $12,000.

#: Horse, Jockey, Trainer Wt./Odds

1: Straitfromtheduece (Roman, Biehler) 119/8-1

2: Cat With Class (Da Silva, Donlin) 119/12-1

3: Legacyinthemaking (Harr, Smith) 119/15-1

4: Ridin Solo (Gallardo, Bethke) 119/3-1

5: Last Stand (Morales, Smith) 119/9-2

6: Westdakota (Lindsay, Bedford) 119/15-1

7: Carpe Gold (Rodriguez, Bethke) 119/4-1

8: Kirill the Thrill (Fuentes, Robertson) 119/2-1

KIRILL THE THRILL (8) returns to the dirt where he experienced moderate success last year and drops dramatically in class for a very sharp barn. Top jockey climbs aboard and the outside post gives him options. RIDING SOLO (4) has shown speed in his last few attempts including battling for the lead against special weights on the turf in last. STRAITFROMTHEDUECE (1) flashed some ability in his last race at two but has regressed at three.

4. 1 mile on turf. Fillies and mares. 3-year-olds and up. Claiming: $7,500. Purse: $14,000.

#: Horse, Jockey, Trainer Wt./Odds

1: Fall Moon (Quinonez, Padilla) 124/8-1

2: Golden Gopher (Rodriguez, Silva) 124/6-1

3: Unplucked Gem (Morales, Rushton) 124/20-1

4: Irazu (Da Silva, Jones) 124/15-1

5: Pasta Salad Rhonda (Carmona, Robertson) 119/7-2

6: Hurricain Hunter (Pena, Silva Jr.) 124/6-1

7: Badger Kitten (Valenzuela, Hone) 124/4-1

8: Fat and Furious (Harr, Silva) 124/15-1

9: Gypsy Wife (Fuentes, Eikleberry) 124/3-1

10: Warrior’s Moon (Gallardo, Tracy) 124/15-1

BADGER KITTEN (7) won back-to-back to finish her Canterbury meet last summer before hitting the bench. Her 2024 debut was encouraging losing by a nose and should improve with the added fitness. PASTA SALAD RHONDA (5) closed from the clouds to win her last start but got a perfect setup. Might not get those fast early fractions today. HURRICAIN HUNTER (6) has been close in all four starts this year but has been beaten by many of these.

5. 5 furlongs. Open. 3-year-olds and up. Claiming: $5,000. Purse: $12,500.

#: Horse, Jockey, Trainer Wt./Odds

1: J J’s Wildcat (Arroyo, McKinley) 124/12-1

2: I Wish I Could (Rodriguez, Biehler) 119/10-1

3: Happy Hour Bobby (Quinonez, Kenney) 124/6-1

4: Cinco El Sovereign (Barajas, Silva) 119/6-1

5: Passion of Joe’s (Valenzuela, Rarick) 124/4-1

6: Wynn Trip (Carmona, Robertson) 119/8-5

7: Hangin’ Tuff (Gallardo, Berndt) 119/9-2

8: Schleicher (Pena, Rushton) 124/20-1

WYNN TRIP (6) has maybe figured things out. After going winless in his first 10, he’s now gone back-to-back and catches a beatable field here. Drops in class and has tactical speed to be involved early. CINCO EL SOVEREIGN (4) popped and stopped in last but that race was off a layoff. Might be more fit in this one. HAPPY HOUR BOBBY (3) has been dropping anchor in the lane recently but is taking blinkers off.

6. 5 furlongs on turf. Open. 3-year-olds and up. Allowance optional claiming: $20,000. Purse: $30,500.

#: Horse, Jockey, Trainer Wt./Odds

1: Twentyone N Change (Barajas, Silva) 122/7-2

2: Angel’s Magic (Rodriguez, Bethke) 122/10-1

3: Channel Won (Gallardo, Tracy) 124/4-1

4: Optimal Courage (Pena, Silva) 122/6-1

5: Plane Talk (Da Silva, Robertson) 122/5-1

6: Crocodilehunter (Quinonez, Padilla) 122/12-1

7: Bodenheimer (Fuentes, Lund) 122/6-1

8: Distorted Pro (Carmona, Robertson) 117/3-1

9: Hoya Paranoya (Valenzuela, Garrett) 122/15-1

10: Bayou Colonel (Carmona, Scherer) 117/6-1

11: Central Park (Pena, Silva Jr.) 124/4-1

12: Mister Chairman (Lindsay, Ramaekers) 122/15-1

BODENHEIMER (7) returns following a six-month layoff after dominating this division last summer with three straight victories. The layoff is a concern but he won off the layoff last year and the top jockey takes the call. CHANNEL WON (3) is having an unbelievable year as a 10-year-old with three wins and a second in four starts. He’ll be closing late as usual. OPTIMAL COURAGE (4) has been a win machine in 2023-24 racking up 11 wins. Can never dismiss.

7. 300 yards. Open. 3-, 4- and 5-year-olds. Maiden. Purse: $14,500.

#: Horse, Jockey, Trainer Wt./Odds

1: Turnin Point (Alvidrez, Olmstead) 125/9-5

2: Pj Dynasty (Harr, Livingston) 125/3-1

3: Relentlessly Sweet (Valenzuela, Olmstead) 125/7-2

4: Misstic Coronita (Fonseca-Soto, Hobbs) 125/6-1

5: Lupito (Hernandez, Geditz Jr.) 127/9-2

6: Snowing Confetti (Frink, Hanson) 125/10-1

TURNIN POINT (1) narrowly missed in last for the top barn while establishing her career-high speed figure. If she takes another step forward, she’ll be right there at the wire. PJ DYNASTY (2) ran well in his career debut while breaking from the tough rail position. Should improve with the race under his belt. RELENTLESSLY SWEET (3) has had 12 attempts to graduate, but you can never dismiss Olmstead.

8. 300 yards. Open. 3-year-olds and up. Optional claiming: $10,000. Purse: $16,000.

#: Horse, Jockey, Trainer Wt./Odds

1: Penner Ash (Alvidrez, Olmstead) 127/8-5

2: Pulgarcitos Moonin (Fonseca-Soto, Hobbs) 127/5-2

3: Ap Dynasty (Valenzuela, Olmstead) 127/2-1

4: Myownersbroke (Harr, Wilson) 127/6-1

5: Michael B (Frink, Hanson) 127/12-1

PENNER ASH (1) made her seasonal debut last out down in Altoona and was competitive. Should improve off that effort with the added fitness for the leading trainer. MYOWNERSBROKE (4) has not won since 2021 but has back class so we know he has talent, the question is, can he regain that past form. AP DYNASTY (3) is another Olmstead and might improve in her second start of the season.

9. 330 yards. State bred. Open. 3-year-olds and up. Allowance. Purse: $18,000.

#: Horse, Jockey, Trainer Wt./Odds

1: Streak N Quartz (Fonseca-Soto, Hobbs) 125/8-1

2: Little Zorrito (Navarrete Jr., Stein) 125/12-1

3: Saturday Nite Gamble (Ramirez, Stein) 125/2-1

4: Relentless Minnie (Alvidrez, Olmstead) 125/7-5

5: Hes Comin N Hot (Estrada, Stein) 125/5-2

RELENTLESS MINNIE (4) makes his second start of the season for Olmstead after performing well local last summer. Gets a good post and Olmstead’s go-to rider climbs aboard. HES COMIN N HOT (5) broke his maiden in his last start but needs to run faster to compete against winners. SATURDAY NITE GAMBLE (3) went wire-to-wire from the rail in last. Needs to break alertly here.

The seeds for Wednesday’s disappointing loss were planted much earlier. How far back you want to go probably depends on who you want to blame for a sputtering season.
