Wolves forward Al Jefferson appeared in Hennepin County District Court this morning in connection with his February drunk driving arrest. A pretrial hearing was scheduled for 9:30 a.m., May 27. The court also set a trial date of June 30. Jefferson was pulled over for speeding on Interstate 394 just after 1 a.m. Feb. 28, less than four hours after the Wolves lost to Portland at Target Center. He failed a field sobriety test and a breath test registered above the .08 legal limit. He agreed to a blood test and his blood alcohol content registered .12.
The team suspended Jefferson on the day of his arrest for two games without pay, which cost him about $293,000. He apologized the next day to his family, his teammates and his fans for what called a "major mistake," "a stupid choice" and the "embarrassment I caused." He vowed he will never drink and drive again.
Fourth-degree drunken driving is punishable by up to 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.
