The 137th Kentucky Derby in Louisville, Ky., will usher horse-racingenthusiasts into the city this Saturday. Louisville has been soaked by rainrecently with nearly 20 inches falling across the area since April 1. Althougha soaking rain is not in the forecast, it is unlikely the entire day will berain-free.A weak area of low pressure pushing into the region later Saturday will producea few showers and even a slight chance of a thunderstorm. Most of the morningand afternoon should be dry, with the best chance of showers occurring duringthe late afternoon and evening hours.
Temperatures will climb into the lower 70s during the afternoon hours beforeslipping back into the upper 60s for the start of the race.
Generally dry weather leading up to the race should prevent muddy trackconditions; however, any showers that pass through the region can dampen thetrack surface before or during the race.
