Dan Barreiro won't be leaving KFAN.
KFAN matches offer, retains host Barreiro

The Clear Channel-owned station confirmed Wednesday that it had matched an offer the popular afternoon-drive host received from KSTP (1500 AM) this month.
"This was a very long and complicated negotiation," said Ron Rosenbaum, who represents Barreiro. "Until the very end it was never clear at which station Dan would end up working, but at the end of the day KFAN and Clear Channel stepped up to the plate and as was their legal right matched. Under those circumstances Dan Barreiro would be required to stay at KFAN."
Although he flirted with Hubbard-owned KSTP, Barreiro made it clear he is happy to remain with his employer of the past 15 years.
"It's easy to say, 'Let's stay at a place where you have been treated well and enjoy working,'" he said. "There is not a lot of controversy to this thing."
Barreiro, a former Star Tribune sports columnist, received a lucrative six-year offer from KSTP (1500 AM) on Nov. 8. San Antonio-based Clear Channel had 15 business days to match it. The deadline was Friday.
Barreiro's current contract with Clear Channel expires on Dec. 31.
