The Water's Edge gladly welcomed the 49 Pro's and 49 Am's on Saturday and like the other Silverado events this year Mother Nature decided to change things up from practice. On Friday, we saw 90 degree temperatures and sun and on tournament we saw overcast skies turn into a rain filled day.
My pro partner for this event was Dennis Feidler and we had a great two days on the water. Dennis and I had a good day of practice on Friday and used a lot of different baits and techniques to catch Minnewaska bass. For the first time ever, I turned to a 3/8 oz, instead of my normal 1/4 oz. RC Tackle swim jig to catch some nice largemouth on a deep flat during practice. On tournament day this lure just produced a trophy 28 inch walleye.
During the tournament I relied on a drop shot to catch our fish on deep structure. For a shallow water, river fisherman like myself, this was a great learning experience tournament for me, I fished deep water and finesse baits. My drop shot rig consisted of a 3/8 oz. weight, below a 1/0 Eagle Claw drop shot hook (L097) with a wide variety of soft plastic stick baits and finesse worms on it.
Our 6 fish limit weighed 14.01 lb.'s and put us in 9th place and it helped me move up in the year end standings to 15th. With more tournament left, I need another solid finish to put me in the year end championship.
I again want to thank Dennis for a great time on the water, the Silverado for putting on such a great event and all of their sponsors for the support.
If you are looking for a fun event to attend, I urge you to attend the final regular season event of the 2009 Silverado season. Anglers will be taking off from Lord Fletcher's on Lake Minnetonka on Friday, September 11th. Take off will be at 7 a.m. and the weigh in will start at 3 p.m.
I hope to see you there!!
Lake Minnewaska Silverado Pro-Am Bass Tournament
The third stop on the 2009 Silverado Pro-Am bass Tour was on August 15th and held on the beautiful Lake Minnewaska in Starbuck. Despite the rainy conditions my partner and I put together a solid tournament finish!
