Laurence Lives Again

Image Credit: Navy Research Lab MontereyTropical Cyclone Laurence has come back to life after moving back out off thecoast of northwestern Australia.Previously, Laurence had triggered drenching rain as it moved along thenorthern coast of the Northern Territory, near Darwin, but then lost strengthafter moving inland.

The storm is now back over water off the northern coast of western Australiaand has begun to strengthen again. As of Sunday morning, EST, Laurence wascentered near 17.8S, 120.7E, or about 220 miles northeast of Port Hedland,Australia. The storm was moving toward the west-southwest at 8 mph. Winds inthe storm were sustained near 65 mph with gusts to 80 mph. Laurence is expectedto strengthen further and turn more toward the south over the next couple ofdays, taking aim at the "Eighty Mile Beach" area just east of Port Hedland.
