Many baseball fans in New York City are irate because of the sharp increase in ticket prices that will greet the opening next spring of new ballparks for the Yankees and the Mets. With a new ballpark for the Twins set to open here in the spring of 2010, now is the time to raise concerns that ordinary fans and their children will be priced out of seeing their home team.
At the Metrodome it's possible for fans to purchase "Cheap Seats" for $7. These are seats in the far outfield. From some of them fans can't see the entire outfield. But others are actually good seats, with better sightlines than some lower deck seats. Since there are no assigned seats in this section, if you get to the park early, you can get a good, affordable seat. For many fans and their children these seats are the only way going to a major league ball game is possible.
Especially given how much public money has gone into the new ballpark, it is important that average fans not be priced out of going to games and enjoying outdoor baseball.
