Jason Lewis campaign raising money on controversy over past comments

Jason Lewis, who is running for Congress in Minnesota's Second Congressional District, told a group of Republicans activists in Lakeville recently that his campaign is raising money off the controversy over his past comments.

Lewis has been criticized for comments he made on his radio show about women and race, and for statements in his book, "Power Divided is Power Checked: The Argument for States' Rights" about the Civil War and slavery.

At a campaign event on February 20 at Goodfellas Pizza Bar and Grill in Lakeville, Lewis told the attendees that he had "a little secret" to share with them: the campaign was raising money off the controversy over the comments.

Lewis' statement that his campaign is raising money off the controversy came just days before Lewis described the criticism over his past comments as "drive-by allegations" in an commentary submitted to the Star Tribune.

Angie Craig, who is the lone Democratic candidate running for Congress in the Second Congressional District has sent out fundraising solicitations about Lewis' past comments about women and slavery.

Lewis' campaign did not respond to a request for comment.
