Plus: Pick of the week is army green lace-up boots
By SARA GLASSMAN, Star Tribune
With the help of a business partner, she has for the first time had pieces from her fall 2010 collection produced and available for purchase online.
The collection, themed "to the ends of the universe," was inspired by galaxies far away and includes custom-designed fabrics created in collaboration with Minneapolis painters Melissa Breitenfeldt and Laura Weber.
The collection proves that you can have a higher concept, but also create pieces that people will want to buy. "I was trying to go for a more wearable look, but hold onto my edge as a designer," Fulk said.
She has already designed a small spring 2011 collection based on the Chimera, a mythological creature featuring a lion-serpent-bird woman.
Laura Fulk fall collection; prices range from a silk dress ($190) to a wool/cashmere coat with red lining ($500), available on www.laurafulk.com.
Pick of the week: Green boots
Dabble in the military trend with army green footwear such as this pair of lace-up boots ($99, Nine West, available on www.endless.com). They work perfectly with everything from a miniskirt to skinny jeans and freshen up neutrals, including gray and camel.
