A 56-year-old Minneapolis man with a long criminal history has been charged with second-degree murder in the stabbing death of a shopper he allegedly harassed and fought with Tuesday at a Cub Foods in south Minneapolis.

Damon Moore was charged Thursday in the death of Jeffrey J. Miller, 54.

The clash at the Cub in the 2800 block of 26th Avenue S. drew officers to the scene about 11 p.m. Tuesday, where they found Miller lying stabbed in the head. He was taken to HCMC, where he died.

Officers found Moore, a longtime felon with a rape conviction and dozens of other convictions, at a residence nearby and arrested him. He remains in the Hennepin County jail. Prosecutors are seeking bail of $1.5 million, according to County Attorney Mike Freeman.

According to court documents, witnesses said that Moore was inside the store harassing customers, including Miller. Miller told Moore to go outside.

Surveillance video showed Miller leaving the store when Moore confronted him. Moore followed him and stabbed him in the left temple, according to witnesses.
