Look away, Vikings fans: Sports Illustrated's predictions will make your purple blood boil

If SI is right, this will not be a good year for the Minnesota side of the Vikings-Packers rivalry.

For Vikings fans, anger is now for sale on newsstands. For $4.99, you can buy the Sports Illustrated NFL preview issue that will make you scream before you get back to your purple-and-gold-painted van in the parking lot.

The SI that hit mailboxes and shelves late this week features these jabs:

  • A prediction that the Vikings lose their home opener, the first game in U.S. Bank Stadium – to the Packers.
  • A prediction that on a nationally televised Christmas Eve game, the Vikings will lose – to the Packers.
  • A prediction that Vikings make the playoffs but finish second in the NFC North – to the Packers.
  • A prediction that in the playoffs, the Vikings lose their first game – to the Packers.

Minnesota's least-favorite forecast since Oct. 30, 1991!

The magazine does have a nice write-up on Harrison Smith, and applauds the longevity of Adrian Peterson's run, but Vikings fans will throw it across the room before they get to those words.

SI also basically ignores Teddy Bridgewater's important season ahead, and has the team finishing 10-6, a step back from last year's 11-5 North-winning season.

The Packers make the NFC title game, SI says, losing to the Cardinals. The magazine's Super Bowl pick: Arizona over Pittsburgh.

SI once again put out an impressive, 90-plus page NFL preview, but if the Vikings are your team, you won't like it.
