The Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) will try to add the Humphrey and Lindbergh names to new highway signs near Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.
MAC's airport terminal signs might say more
The original proposal would have eliminated the names of the Lindbergh and Humphrey terminals from the signs.
That was the decision Wednesday of a MAC committee considering a $1 million proposal for new signs on the freeways approaching the airport to help alleviate confusion for travelers about the terminals.
Under the original proposal, the names of the Lindbergh and Humphrey terminals would be eliminated from the signs, which would instead say Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.
The new signs would also list which airlines fly out of each terminal.
The MAC's Finance, Development and Environment Committee approved the proposal but directed the MAC staff to look into whether the new signs could also incorporate the names, which honor Charles Lindbergh and Hubert H. Humphrey.
Sun Country Airlines, which has long used the Humphrey terminal as a marketing tool, has said it's opposed to dropping the Humphrey and Lindbergh names.
The proposal goes before the entire commission June 15.
